From September 1 to 3, 2026, the University of Montenegro hosted the SKILL2SUSTAIN International Symposium and Project Management Meeting in Kotor, at the Faculty of Maritime Studies.

The first two days brought together researchers and practitioners for the symposium, which opened with two keynote lectures. On September 1, Professor Dr. Ilija Lalošević spoke on “Sustainability of Cultural Heritage – Case Study of Kotor”. On September 2, Dr. Jovana Topalić presented “Risk-Informed Decision Making in Wastewater Treatment Plant Construction: A Delphi-Based Preliminary Risk Assessment Model for Sustainable Infrastructure Delivery”.

Across five sessions, participants gave 41 presentations on digital and green skills needs assessment in higher education and industry; BIM and GIS applications in construction; AI-based tools for skills development; climate resilience and disaster risk management; the circular economy in construction materials; and corporate governance for green and digital transformation. Presenters came from Montenegro, Croatia, Slovenia, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Albania, and North Macedonia.

On September 3, the consortium held its project management meeting. Partners reviewed completed deliverables and milestones, including the report on activated equipment and established Research and Education centers, the expanded academia-stakeholder network, and the stakeholder workshops. Discussion continued on new and modernized study programs, new certified lifelong learning programs, and new blended learning materials, as well as the peer-review plan and the timeline for the project’s Special Issue in the UBL Journal and the e-library. The meeting closed with a detailed distribution of tasks and an action plan for the next project period.
